Rules for trolley race

South Alive Trolley Derby 2019

Vehicle Specifications
Trolley design –  width : no more  than 1.2m,  length: no more than 2m
Wheels - Each trolley must have 4 wheels  steering wheel to be below chin level
Brakes – each trolley must have a braking system that
• acts on at least both wheels of one axle
• can be applied in a controlled and progressive manner
• can provide stable and efficient braking without adverse effect on the directional control of the trolley
Steering-  All trolleys are required to have a steering system capable of manoeuvring at speed. That is, you are able to avoid a trolley in front of you if it crashes.

Protective Clothing.
Headwear: All participants must have head protection which at a minimum must be a cycle helmet

Clothing:  Drivers of open trolleys  must have:
• Elbow and knee pads
• Enclosed shoes
• long sleeved shirts
• long trousers

Racing process
Trolley Races will be run in heats with 2 trolleys per heat,  in the following groups:
-  7 & 8yrs,  9 & 10yrs,  11 & 12yrs,  13 & 14yrs,  15 yrs  to adult, corporate

Finals will be run when all heats in their age group are finished.
Non finalists will be given an opportunity to have another fun run down the hill in their age groups

Race day rules
No Push starts.
Drivers must have forward facing vision at all times during the race.
Drivers must stay within their starting lanes for the duration of the lane length.
Hands must stay within their trolleys during the race
Brakes must be used at the finish line near the bottom of the hill.

Presentation of prizes and certificates
This will take place at the race venue in Rimu St – approximately 3.30pm

Safety
South Alive will make every endeavour to ensure this event is memorable for all the right reasons. Barriers of straw bales and cones for crowd control will be on site as will Community Patrol and first aid personnel in a dedicated First Aid tent. However all agree to participate at their own risk.

Waiver:     I have read and understood the instructions relating to this event.  I have read them to my son/daughter who also understands their responsibilities regarding this event.  S/he agrees to comply with these instructions and any others that may be given on the day of the event.  I agree that the entrant participates at his/her own risk.
I agree to allow South Alive to take and subsequently use in any of their promotional materials, any photographs of the event taken for this competition, providing such are not used for commercial gain.

Facilities
Port-a-loos will be available on car park site

Games and entertainment
All ages free fun event follows from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in Elizabeth Park (Rimu St or John St Entrance): egg & spoon, sack, and 3 legged races, toss the gumboot,  donkey rides, water slide, Bumper Balls, colouring activity, bubble machine, have a go at BMX, plus food trucks will be onsite for buying food also.
